BioWare announced what many have speculated for a while, as Dragon Age III: Inquisition is official. Executive producer Mark Darrah posted an open letter on the game's website earlier today, in which he gives some background on who he is and the briefest of information on DA3. Aside from the game's title (which gives us an idea of the story), Darrah could not elaborate on too much more, but he did say Dragon Age III has been worked on for the past two years, with a majority of the work "ramping up about 18 months ago." The team is made up of a lot of people who worked on Dragon Age: Origins along with some new developers, so there should be a good mixture of talents on the game. BioWare has been listening to the fans to get some feedback on the Dragon Age titles, so hopefully that means a lot of the issues with Dragon Age II do not reappear.

Dragon Age III: Inquisition uses the Frostbite 2 engine as its foundation, which I imagine is going to be heavily modified for the RPG. The new engine should "deliver a more expansive world, better visuals, more reactivity to player choices, and more customization," according to Darrah. BioWare talked about armor and followers at PAX East, so that is the kind of customization we can expect in DA3. I will be quite happy to have my followers decked out in any armor I wish in DA3, just like DAO, and I imagine everyone else will be, too.

BioWare is going to keep an open dialog with the fans to answer any questions and hopefully tailor the feedback. More information on Dragon Age III: Inquisition will be arriving throughout this year and into next, as the game is expected to arrive by the end of 2013. No platforms were announced, but expect it for the PC, PS3, 360, and potentially Wii U.
