Last December, EA announced BioWare Victory would be developing Command & Conquer: Generals 2, which would bring the franchise back to its roots. Then came the news last month that the Generals 2 part of the name has been dropped and it would be a free-to-play title. Oh, and there would be no single player campaign at all. However, in a surprising change of heart, Command & Conquer is going to have a single player campaign after fan feedback demanded it. EA Labels president Frank Gibeau explained in a recent interview that a single player experience is very important for fans, and the F2P nature of the game means it is adaptable. The studio wants to cater to the fans for the new C&C and shape the game based on what they are saying, which is nice to see from a major company. Gibeau even said there is a chance for units from the Red Alert and Tiberium series to be mixed in, although at first it sounds like the game will feature more of the conventional units from Generals.
Command & Conquer is slated to arrive sometime next year on the PC. It could find its way to the consoles down the road, provided it "makes sense," but it may be quite a while before that happens.
