Steam Big Picture Beta Arriving Later Today

Valve has some good news for anyone with a large TV, as the beta for Steam Big Picture arrives later today for PC users (Mac is "coming soon"). Steam Big Picture features a new interface designed for big screen TVs, which means no more squinting at tiny text on your 60" HDTV. Control can be handled by a mouse and keyboard, or if you prefer, a game controller, like the Xbox 360 ones or the Logitech Gamepad F710. The interface has been tweaked to let anyone browse the Steam Store, surf the web, talk to friends, and play games with ease via a controller, so you can relax on your couch the entire time. Web browsing features a reticle so you can easily know what you are clicking on, but if you think typing in web addresses or even talking to your friends with a controller will be difficult, think again. Valve developed Daisywheel for controllers, which puts the keyboard at your thumbs. The left analog stick switches between sets of letters for the face buttons, which should make for faster typing using a controller. It certainly sounds better than a digital QWERTY interface, and hopefully more intuitive. More features will come to Big Picture over time as Valve updates and refines it.

Played around with this a little bit earlier this evening, works pretty nice.
