Steam Greenlight Spotlight: Contrast
Welcome to the first of what will be my new weekly feature. There are many great games on Steam Greenlight, but sifting through the hundreds of entries to find them isn't always a task people want to perform. Every weekend, I will pick one game I feel is deserving of your attention and hopefully a "Yes" vote. I will try to focus on games that I feel may have broad appeal, though obviously everyone's tastes differ. I will also be focusing on "hidden gems" – great games that may be flying under the radar. That means it's unlikely you'll find me highlighting a game like Black Mesa, which already has an extremely strong following and is all but guaranteed acceptance. You can visit the forum, where I will be tracking each entry. So without further ado, let's get to this week's spotlight.
Contrast is a single-player puzzle-platformer set on the backdrop of a "surreal 1920s dreamscape." You play as a young girl named Didi, trying to unravel the mysteries behind her troubled family. Aside from the graphical style and atmosphere, what sets this game apart is Didi's ability to shift freely in and out of shadow. To solve puzzles, you must manipulate light sources to alter the shadows in the world. In addition, developer Compulsion Games promises that "your choices directly impact Didi's future; your light reveals what stories remain in shadow." If Compulsion Games can pull it off, Contrast should supply a unique, challenging and compelling adventure.
Below is the Contrast Greenlight introduction video, along with the concept art for several locations. Contrast is certainly deserving of attention and exactly the type of game that should see success on Greenlight.
