Closed gaming platforms, like all the current consoles and handhelds, are at an end, according to one of the most unlikely sources to admit it, Sony. PlayStation Europe CEO Jim Ryan said as much in a recent interview, as the gaming world moves to a place without rules. The "walled garden" of gaming is at an end, and Sony is already trying to change by letting PS3 and/or Vita owners buy a game for one system and own it for the other. Connected devices, like the PS3 and Vita, will be necessary for gaming to adapt to the ever changing landscape. Soon tablets, smartphones, and even televisions will benefit from PlayStation titles, and is just one example of Sony trying to adapt. Ryan says the entire gaming industry must innovate and evolve in order to thrive, as no one industry can exist by sticking to what it knows. Do not be afraid to think outside the box, essentially, and Sony is certainly not afraid to do exactly that.
