The PlayStation 3 is nearing its sixth birthday and there is plenty of talk about the PlayStation 4. Some are pegging the next-gen console to arrive next year, which could cause people to wait and see if it does before purchasing a console. Sony Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida does not think people should, as he says the PlayStation 3 is in the "prime time" to buy. Speaking in an interview, Yoshida said there are many games to buy already with "new and exciting games coming out next year." There are also plenty of affordable games to buy now, with the Greatest Hits collection enabling new gamers to jump into some classic PS3 titles without breaking the bank. Current and prospective PS3 owners can look forward to The Last of Us and BEYOND: Two Souls, which are exclusive to the system. There are plenty of other titles to consider as well, but Yoshida believes The Last of Us and BEYOND will truly show the power of the PS3 system, and offer just a glimpse at what is to come in the future for the console.
A price cut is not in the books for the PS3 this year, according to Yoshida, as he says the company is "very happy" with where the system is at. This does not rule out the possibilty of the super slim PS3 launching at an inexpensive price, but both Yoshida and Sony are not commenting on that rumored redesign.
