Command & Conquer Generals 2 developer Bioware Victory surprised a lot of C&C fans when the game was announced to be going free-to-play, but now it appears that no singleplayer story mode will be available upon launch date. What the C&C spinoff seems be emphasizing on, is its focus on becoming a more competitive online experience. The singleplayer campaign wasn't totally written off, although for now it seems to have been shelved for the time being. BioWare Victory's general manager John Van Caneghe has mentioned that their team "really want to get back to the roots of what made Command & Conquer great." Sure, the idea of churning out hundreds of units at your enemies won't get old, but a lot of devoted C&C fans probably enjoyed the goofy seriousness of the franchise - so hopefully it will make the cut somewhere along the line.
