September 5 will be a very interesting day for Valve, as that is the first day Steam will offer non-gaming software. Steam users will be able to download software ranging from creativity to productivity tools, although Valve was mum one what exactly will be available at launch. Most of the launch titles will be loaded with Steamworks, which will grant easy installation, automatic updates, and Steam Cloud support so you are never without your files. More titles will be added after launch and developers will be free to submit software to Steam Greenlight, a crowd-voting system, starting August 30. The ability to purchase software other than games has been a much requested feature by Steam users, Valve's Mark Richardson explained, and soon that feature will be a reality.
Maybe soon we will be able to get the newest Adobe Photoshop or Microsoft Office through Steam. We have less than a month to go to find out, but what do you think of this idea?
