There are some classic games that people just cannot get enough of. No matter how many times you have beaten the game, it still somehow manages to find its way into your gaming time. Sure, the graphics will not compare to modern games and the enemies hold nothing back, but all of those add up to a memorable experience. Some video games have appeared on Kickstarter recently to bypass the tradtional publisher route, and many have found great success, like Wasteland 2. Now it looks like another classic game may receive a revival through Kickstarter. Chris Avellone of Obsidian Entertainment recently said he is "very tempted" to launch a Planescape reboot on Kickstarter. Avellone said the game would not be a direct sequel but rather a spiritual successor to Planescape: Torment. He is not interested in using the Dungeons & Dragons toolset like the original game, and likens the revival to what Fallout did as the spiritual successor to Wasteland.
Avellone would take the concepts of Planescape: Torment, like the metaphysical ideas and plane travel, and package it up into a new game. Planescape is a licensed Dungeons & Dragons realm, so if Avellone does make a spiritual succesor it would have a new name and setting. Still, it would be interesting to see if Avellone can run with the idea and make the Kickstarter a reality. He is currently working with Brian Fargo and inXile on Wasteland 2, so maybe Avellone is being hit with nostalgia.
