Borderlands is one of the more unique games to have come out in the last several years. Gearbox's standout title looks and plays like a first-person shooter, but then there are RPG elements with character progression and skills, and oh so many types of weapons. Borderlands 2 is set to arrive in the next couple of months, but Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford wonders why no one has copied the game's formula just yet. Speaking to Gamasutra, Pitchford says Borderlands has "zero competition" from other games, which is simply amazing. In a world where video game ideas are repeated or directly copied by other studios, there really are no other games like Borderlands. Gearbox does not have to worry about fighting another company for sales like EA and Activision do with Battlefield and Call of Duty, respectively. Pitchford says he thinks it is impressive how the Borderlands formula has remained separate from the others, and I am sure that is something we are all grateful for.
Borderlands 2 arrives on September 18th for the PC, PS3, and 360.
