Playdead's LIMBO has been a hit on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 since it first arrived two years ago, but that platform list could have been a lot smaller. LIMBO was nearly exclusive to the PlayStation Network, but Sony's request for the rights caused Playdead to look to Microsoft. The game went on to sell over 300,000 copies in its first month on Xbox Live, and while LIMBO did just fine on PSN, it could have done a lot better had it been an exclusive. Sony wanted to own the LIMBO IP since it could more easily market and merchandise the game. Sony Computer Entertainment executive producer Pete Smith says ownership rights can make the developer "skittish," but there can usually be some common ground found. Playdead did not want to go that route, and it is hard to blame the studio.
