The collapse of 38 Studios and Big Huge Games so soon after the launch of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, its first title, was a bit of a shock. The game possesses an interesting premise and sold well, but there were some other issues at hand that led to the closure of the studio. EA published Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning and would like to publish a sequel even though 38 Studios is not around. EA Labels president Frank Gibeau says it is "unfortunate" how everything worked out for 38 Studios, but hopes a sequel can one day come about. If that does happen, then EA would like to be the publisher for it since it saw great promise in the game. The IP for Kingdoms of Amalur remains in 38 Studios' possession, but maybe Big Huge Games will reform and start working on a spiritual successor. It did the same with its Ascendant RPG, which became Kingdoms of Amalur, so perhaps it can do the same again.
