BioWare Mythic is crafting a brand new title to resurrect the Ultima series properly - with a free to play online gameworld based on Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar. The cross-platform RPG will work on both the iPad and the PC, and reimagines the epic adventures of the 1985 cult classic using modern graphics and a cartoonish visual style. Ultima Forever: Quest for the Avatar will have players choosing two classes, namely the Fighter and the Mage, with a focus on a more personal online experience that works best with three to four friends joining up for a dungeon raid. Although the game is still playable alone, should you choose to do so. "You can do the entire thing on your own if you want. If you're mildly anti-social," said BioWare Mythic's Paul Barnett.
If we're lucky enough, EA will be showing us a glimpse of the game this year. The launch date? "Sooner than you think," teased Barnett. Will Ultima Forever: Quest for the Avatar become the definitive Ultima for the modern age? Hopefully it will be a lot better than EA's muddled Lord of Ultima.
