Most video games based on licensed superheroes, like Batman, tended to wallow in mediocrity for years. There were some that seemed promising and then others that fell right out of the sky. All of that changed when Rocksteady Studios released Batman: Arkham Asylum, which showed a superhero video game can be done properly. Arkham Asylum won many awards and its sequel, Arkham City, followed suit. Now, it looks like Rocksteady is at work on another entry in the Batman: Arkham line, but this one will be a "highly stylized" prequel to the series. The game will supposedly deal with Batman's first encounter with The Joker and is set during the Silver Age of Comics in the late 1950s.

It is also possible the Justice League will make an appearance in the next Batman game, although to what degree is unknown. DC more than likely wants to capitalize on the success of Marvel's The Avengers and if the Justice League of America can be built up in a new Batman game, then so be it. The next Batman game from Rocksteady most likely will not arrive until 2014, so there is plenty of time to reveal everything we want to know.
