Valve's Half-Life franchise is one of the most popular game franchises of all-time (and my personal fave), so when 2007's Half-Life 2: Episode Two ended on a major cliffhanger, fans were obviously yearning for more. Sadly, Episode Three has yet to come and, after the somewhat failed attempt at an episodic structure, most people think the next entry in the franchise will simply be Half-Life 3 – though like Episode Three, there has been little talk on its development by Valve. Back in April, Valve co-founder Gabe Newell discussed how his company doesn't want to reveal too much because of "twists and turns" in development – things change over the course of developing a game, and he doesn't want to make broken promises or disappoint fans.
Today, a new development has emerged, though it dates back to around 2008 – 32 concept art images for Episode Three have been leaked, unveiled by the website ValveTime. Presumably being bombarded by traffic, I have yet to actually get the site to load, but luckily other sites were able to grab the information before it went down. The images include several shots of companion Alyx Vance in various clothes, a crashed Resistance helicopter in an Arctic environment, what appears to be the Xen Borderworld, and much more. We'll likely never know the true validity of these images and whether they're legit or not, remember this is from 2008, so the final product (whenever that may be), will most definitely look very different than these early concept sketches.
All the images below have been grabbed from LambdaGeneration, courtesy of ValveTime. Be forewarned that the LambdaGeneration article contains a spoiler if you haven't played Episode Two. Aside from alluding to a possible return to the Xen Borderworld (which players experienced in the original Half-Life), the images are fairly spoiler-free.
