The Need for Speed series has changed development hands several times since the days of EA Canada and Black Box, but now it looks to finally have a new home. Criterion Games, famous for the Burnout series, will now be in charge of the Need for Speed series and will be involved in all future games. Criterion's vice president Alex Ward said the studio will be handling both Need for Speed and Burnout, which should be welcome news for the fans. He did not say whether this means Criterion will develop all the titles directly or simply oversee production, but Ward seemed to hint Criterion would do it alone. What is clear is that Criterion has the say in what the games will be about, and while there are several distinct entries now, Ward would like the idea of combining Underground, Most Wanted, Shift, and Hot Pursuit into one game. First on the agenda is the revised Most Wanted, but after that, it will be interesting to see what Criterion can do.
