Drobo has announced the Drobo 5D and Drobo Mini, a pair of external storage devices that feature Thunderbolt connectivity. In addition to two Thunderbolt connectors, these devices also feature a USB 3.0 port. This will allow for compatibility with current devices while also allowing users to take advantage of the increased speed of Thunderbolt when their system has an appropriate connector. The 5D can handle five 3.5" hard drives and the Mini can hold four 2.5" drives. Also included is the BeyondRAID capability which allows for using different capacity hard drives in a RAID array. The drives will be available in July with an MSRP starting at $650 and will include a Thunderbolt cable.
