It's not often that a single screenshot can create so much buzz and controversy. It's not often that a single screenshot is worthy of its own news post. But when you take a gander at the newly released in-game screenshot of Ubisoft's Watch Dogs (my E3 2012 Game of the Show), it's easy to see why both ring true. It's not simply that the game world is so highly detailed, but rather that such detail is present in an open-world game – games often known for having to skimp on some details so that even high-end PCs don't crumble under the pressure. As such, it's easy to see why I still feel this is not going to come to current-gen consoles, at least nothing that looks close to this good. That being said, it's obviously easy to dial up the detail for a static screenshot, when for all we know, the game runs at two frames per second at that level. Nevertheless, everything from the individual bricks and leaves to the lighting is mighty impressive. Aside from the detail level, rumors are swirling around the Internet that there may be hidden clues within the image, as Ubisoft hid a QR code in its initial presentation of the game at E3. I personally don't have the patience to scour for such clues – I'm content with simply enjoying the breathtaking screenshot for what it is. Unfortunately, the OCC server has shrunk the image slightly, so you can view the original one direct from Kotaku.
