Star Wars: The Old Republic enjoyed a successful launch with a sizeable player base, but those numbers have dwindled considerably in the last couple of months. With the game seeming to be headed in dire straits, lead designer Emmanuel Lusinchi has commented on the possible routes The Old Republic could go. "Free-to-play games wouldn't be competitors if they weren't any good," said Lusinchi. "So we are looking at free-to-play but I can't tell you in much detail. We have to be flexible and adapt to what is going on." Tremendous competition is coming for TOR with Funcom's conspiracy-laden The Secret World, and ArenaNet's Guild Wars 2, so BioWare may need to cook up something fast to entice new (and old) players to wield lightsabers once more.
