One of the biggest surprises of E3 was the unveiling of Watch Dogs during Ubisoft's 2012 E3 Press Conference and everyone has been buzzing about it ever since, wanting to learn more and more. Watch Dogs is an open-world, action adventure game taking place in modern day Chicago. Though the gameplay video we've been shown seemed to point to a single-player experience, at the very end of the live demo during the press conference (but since removed from the released videos), the camera pulled back and started following a different person. In an interview with VG247, Producer Dominic Guay explained that he was actually a second player:
Online is in the DNA of Watch Dogs. It's super important to us. Our motto is everything is connected and connection is power. So we couldn't announce our game and not at least tease online. Basically, Jonathan, our creative director, was playing Aidan Pierce at the conference and I was playing another character, who hacked into him, who had his own objectives, and we crossed paths. Basically two players crossing paths with their own objectives. So hopefully that gives you an idea of where we're going with this. We definitely want to blend in multiplayer online and single players in ways that haven't been done before.
If you'd like to learn more, you can watch the interview below. It's certainly well worth the watch, as Guay explains a lot of what we can expect to see in Watch Dogs – way more than I can post about here. The game has been in development for over two years, using a brand new engine, and Guay states that it will not be shipping this year, so they have plenty of time to add details to the game. He also states that it will be released on multiple platforms, though didn't list those platforms specifically. The demo was running on a high-end PC.
