I am sure there are many people wondering just when Sony and Microsoft will announce the next-generation consoles. Rumors have been flying around for some time, but still the two tech giants keep quiet. Nintendo will soon have the Wii U out, but Sony has the PlayStation 3 (released in 2006) and Microsoft has the Xbox 360 (released in 2005), so eventually we have to hear about a new console, right? Well, if you talk with Sony Computer Entertainment America President and CEO Jack Tretton, you will get a decidedly different answer. According to Tretton, Sony's plan for the next-generation is to be the best, but not the first or the cheapest. Building a better console that releases after the competition is key for Sony, instead of rushing to the market and "run out of the gas for the long term." Tretton did say in a perfect world you want the console to ship first and be the cheapest, but Sony's goal is to be the best. A noble goal, and judging Sony's history I would say one that is obtainable.
