Intel has been playing catch up in the mobile processor market that is dominated by ARM based chips for years. The company hasn't been discouraged and is confident that it is only a matter of time before it breaks into the market. Motorola and Lenovo are among the companies that have "announced plans to build phones using Intel's mobile processors." The main problem that has been facing Intel in this battle is that its x86 processors cannot compete on power consumption with the ARM based chips. Intel hopes that its upcoming 22nm and 14nm fabrication processes will help it close the gap. In addition to a superior manufacturing process, Intel has thousands of software engineers committed to Open Source technologies, including the popular mobile OS Android from Google.
