Late last month we've heard rumblings of Prey 2 getting axed by Bethesda, but the publisher has now squelched those rumors by confirming that the sequel to the 2006 FPS is still very much in development with Human Head Studios. "The delay is due to the fact that game development has not progressed satisfactorily this past year, and the game does not currently meet our quality standards," explains Bethesda in its blog.
Prey 2's planned open world sci-fi set up thrust players into the shoes of Air Marshal Killian Samuels, an alien abductee who decides to resist his otherworldly captors. The id Tech 4 engine-powered game will be coming to the PC and consoles at an unspecified date after 2012 to allow Human Head enough time to create a compelling follow-up to the original Prey. "We are determined only to release the AAA game that fans rightfully expect, and are unwilling to compromise our quality standards to meet a release schedule," said Bethesda.
