Dark Souls on the PC is a 'Straight Port'

There always seems to be some bad news mixed in with the good, and this is no different. The good news was the announcement that PC gamers will finally be getting to experience Dark Souls this August. The bad news, aside from the inclusion of Games for Windows Live, is the PC version of Dark Souls is a "straight port" of the console version. What does this mean for PC gamers? Well, Dark Souls will lack optimizations, graphics options, and mouse and keyboard support. The lack of any optimizations means any areas that experienced lag on the consoles will experience the same lag on the PC, while a lack of graphics options pretty much says we can only adjust the resolution. As for mouse and keyboard support, Dark Souls can be played with it but From Software strongly recommends using a gamepad.

The decision to be a straight port appears to come from publisher Namco Bandai, but From Software admits it has little PC experience so maybe that has something to do with it. It is a shame really, since the PC version is including a good amount of extra content. I imagine PC gamers would not mind if a little extra time is spent optimizing Dark Souls, nor would they mind if GFWL was replaced with Steamworks.

This totally bums me out, but the lack of Steam was probably enough for me to not buy it.
