iPad Event Scheduled for March 7th

It looks like all those rumors of the iPad 3 are nearly coming to a head, as Apple has pegged March 7th for an iPad event in San Francisco. Apple is keeping things as vague as possible, stating the event will have "something you really have to see. And touch." Everyone expects Apple to unveil the iPad 3 at this event, and from the cryptic message, it looks pretty likely. The rumors on the iPad 3 come in all shapes and sizes, from a 2048x1536 resolution screen to a quad-core A5X/A6 processor. The latest ones peg the iPad 3 as packing an LTE modem that will work on both Verizon's and AT&T's new network. If that holds true, then the iPad 3 would beat the next iPhone to the 4G LTE waters. Whatever the case may be, we have just about a week left to find out what Apple has in store.

i dont understand how screen resolutions that large on a 10 inch screen would even be worth it, it would draw more power and needs more gpu power to run, and you cant even tell the difference

The resolution spcs sound strange, but keep in mind the larger resolution you pack in a smaller space increases the dpi/ppi. This can make text and images look crisper and sharper. While it is hard to say how the "Retina Display" will look/work on the iPad, when it was introduced on the iPhone 4 (3.5in | 960x640 | 326ppi) it was a noticeable difference from the older versions. It is really more of an illusion. With the iPhone's prior to the 4, icons were 57x57 pixels... for "Retina" icons, the size jumped to 114x114 pixels. The icons appear the same size on screen, between devices because the newer device has an increased ppi. You are correct that it would require a more powerful processor and GPU to drive this kind of screen. The rumors include a quad-core processor and a larger depth to the device, which would likely mean larger battery. Of course, anything prior to Apple's March 7th announcement is pure speculation.

yes, but i just got a transformer prime, with a 800x1200 or something screen, and i have to hold it far closer than iit can be used to see any jaggies or pixels, and i have perfect vision, im just saying, that is a higher res than my 23 inch screens, its going on a 10 inch tablet? just seems over the top to me

The GDC is March 5-9. It would be awesome if all tech/internet publications banded together and didn't show up to Apple's lame event.

Yeah, people are just not going to show up to see what the world's most valuable company is announcing. lol
