Texas Instruments has released a demonstration video of its OMAP 5 processor, and the results are impressive. The chip is geared toward mobile applications and features two ARM A15 cores. It was put up against an unnamed quad-core ARM A9 CPU in the EEMBC BrowsingBench test. The OMAP 5 completed the benchmark in 95 seconds, while the competitor took 201 seconds. The OMAP cores run at 800MHz each, while each A9 ran at 1.3GHz. It is unknown when the TI chips will be found in a device you can hold, but the future continues to get brighter for mobile computing.
