New Details Emerge for XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Last week saw the news of a revived X-COM game, but this time one that is much closer to the original than the announced FPS one. XCOM: Enemy Unknown is being developed by Firaxis Games, and today some more information has been revealed about it. A few screenshots have emerged as well, however those are from the console version of the game and do not quite give off that classic X-COM feel. The details, on the other hand, are more promising, what with research, emphasis on fog of war and line of sight, international negotiations, leveling, recruiting, permanent death, and plenty of combat. Some of the combat will include jets versus UFOs, which should provide for some spectacular aerial battles. On the not so promising side of the details is a reduced focus on micromanaging in order to remove the "tedium and uninteresting mechanics." Personally, micromanaging is an important aspect of tactical games, but we will have to see how much that is impacted in the final release.
XCOM: Enemy Unknown will release this fall for the PC, PS3, and 360.
