Crysis 2 is Most Pirated PC Game of 2011

Say what you will about illegally obtaining a game, but the fact is video game piracy is still quite prevalent. It did decline from 2010 to 2011, but not nearly enough. Torrent Freak compiled a list of the most pirated titles using public BitTorrent trackers, and found Crysis 2 to be the most pirated PC game of 2011. Crysis 2 came out in the early part of 2011, and managed to be torrented 3.92 million times. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was next in line at 3.65 million downloads, which is impressive considering it came out at the tail end of 2011, and then Battlefield 3 follows at 3.51 million, which also came out near the end of 2011. FIFA 12 came in fourth at 3.39 million illegal downloads, and then Portal 2 at 3.24 million. All of these numbers are around three times the amount of the most pirated console game, and just goes to show that piracy is still a major problem for publishers and developers. I know, some of you will say some pirates do tend to buy the games afterwards, but there are always those who do not.

Darn it, next crysis maybe heavily protected by DRM

I'm betting Crysis 2 was so heavily pirated because people didn't want to pay for a game that was the complete opposite of what Crytek promised. It was a direct console port. I didn't pirate it, and I didn't buy it either, even though Crysis is one of my favorite games and I was really looking forward to Crysis 2. It was a shame.

But can we not completely understand the reason for pirating? For example BF3/MW3 etc/ The most of these games are online multiplayer. The solo play is okay but its nothing like the online play. The ones who do buy the game buy it because they enjoy it and want more, those that dont, just dont like the game. What's wrong with trying these games out in this way? Rather than spend £30-60 for it new and not liking it then not being able to take it back. But then again for games like Portal 2, Skyrim etc, it's all offline play so there's no security. Is that our fault? I think not. In this day and age where jobs are hard to come by, buying a house is now extremely hard even buying nice things is hard, then we have to fish around for £30-60 for a game? Its just too expensive. So if i can take full advantage of games for free then thankyou very much :) And if this is hitting developers "so hard" then where are their job cuts? Where's the news of EA making a massive loss this quarter? There isn't one because they are still making profits. If everyone did pay, do you think they would lower the price? I dont think so. Why? Because we as humans dont work like that. We're selling something that people are buying so lets keep it that way. /End of rant.

How about this?: http://www.play.tm/news/32926/crytek-crysis-2-pc-version-will-be-a-proper-pc-game/ Lies Proper PC Version? This game screams "direct console port" so much that a Day 1 patch had be released to remove the "Press Start to Continue" screen. Crysis & Crysis Warhead are by far graphically superior. I might consider buying it now that the DX11 pack is out, but I feel quite burned by the this company.

Let's not forget that it didn't even come with DX11 or any customization of video settings at launch, and as I remember, at the time they hadn't even announced any plans to include them. If people want their games to sell, then they're going to have to make sure it's mostly completed before it goes to market. For a game like Crysis to come to PC without any graphic settings other than the presets was just downright dumb on their part.
