Past Mass Effect Games a 'Preamble' to Mass Effect 3
Upcoming BioWare RPG Mass Effect 3 follows the story of the previous two games, but BioWare says the game will stand on its own. BioWare Edmonton general manager Aaryn Flynn says the first two games "were just a warm up," with Mass Effect 3 being "the main event." Flynn calls Mass Effect 1 and 2 a "preamble" to Mass Effect 3, with everything happening in the first two games building up to the dramatic events in the third. Flynn likened it to the Super Bowl, with everyone wanting to watch that game, even if they didn't really follow the regular season. Mass Effect 3 has a single focus, saving the galaxy, while the past two games had a bigger web to unravel to finally get to the end. It seems Flynn believes Mass Effect 3 will be a great entry in the series for newcomers, though they will be missing out on a ton of backstory if ME3 is the first game they play. Flynn also says that ME3 will provide an end to the franchise, with the team behind the game trying to give the series an end the fans deserve.
Mass Effect 3 launches on March 6th, 2012, for the PC, PS3, and 360.
