Getting Hydrogen Out of StorageCategory: Science & Technology

Hydrogen has great potential as an energy source as it burns and can be utilized in fuel cells to generate an electric current. It burns a little too well though, so moving the element normally requires extreme pressure or extreme cold to keep everyone safe. This is hardly economical so researchers have successfully been finding materials to chemically store the gas, making it safe for transport. Releasing the hydrogen from the material can be difficult though. However scientists from the University of Southern California have found a catalyst system to remove the hydrogen stored in ammonia borane, a stable solid. Not only will this system release the hydrogen but also releases enough to be useful as a fuel.
