Sure, Nintendo has the Wii U which features a touchscreen controller capable of displaying the game you're playing on the console, but it isn't the only thing able to do that. Speaking at the Develop Conference last month, Sony Europe R&D manager Phil Rogers said that the PlayStation Vita can serve as a PlayStation 3 controller, effectively giving you a new way to control the games. Rogers said Sony would allow cross-talk functions between the Vita and PS3 "most of the time," which means you could load up a game on the PS3 yet use the Vita's unique functions to control it. The Vita has a gyroscope, a touchscreen up front, and a touch panel on the rear, all of which could give you some unique ways to control a PS3 game. Rogers demonstrated the ability with PS3 versions of Wipeout and Hustle Kings, saying that the network will sync the game states between the two systems. Hopefully the majority of the PS3 and PSVita games let you do this, since when the GameBoy Advance and GameCube allowed it, hardly any developer took advantage of it.
The PlayStation Vita is set to launch later this year, though a solid release date still is not confirmed.
