Fans of the classic Blizzard RPG are in for an annoying surprise: Diablo 3 will require players to have a constant Internet connection. If you can't connect to the Internet, then you can't play at all. Blizzard has been cited as saying that this restriction was implemented in light of the game's Battle.net and Auction House features. The developer has also stated that having players always logged in will reduce cheating incidents. Gamers can still play Diablo 3 by themselves, just as long as they're logged in to the Battle.net servers.
When pressed if the threat of piracy was a contributing factor to the game's absence of an offline mode, Blizzard's senior producer Alex Mayberry admitted that it was one of the reasons. This could very well be a trend that PC gamers will have to get used to. "The world of gaming is not the same as it was when Diablo 2 came out,” said Mayberry.
