Six Strikes Copyright Enforcement Could be Heading Your Way Soon

Several major Internet service providers in the United States, including Verizon and Comcast, have voluntarily signed on to a "six strikes" copyright enforcement policy with the movie and music businesses. The proposed system is very similar to what is currently in place. The ISP will forward copyright infringement notices to subscribers, and will continue to protect subscriber information from accusers. However, this new agreement hopes to focus on educating violators of the penalties that they could face for their illicit activities. This could also provide relief to parents who may not know what their children are up to online. There is no wording in the agreement requiring the ISP to turn off access to paying customers, but some form of punishment may arrive with the fifth or sixth strike.
