In what may seem like an odd move at first glance, The Linux Foundation has announced that car manufacturer Toyota has joined the non-profit group. The automotive industry is undergoing a shift, to where new cars are becoming almost as connected as your home office, so Toyota becoming a member of The Linux Foundation makes sense. Linux provides an open system for car manufacturers to build on for in-car computers which can help to get car owners more connected to the world at large. Toyota is planning on using its new connection with The Linux Foundation to use Linux for its In-Vehicle-Infotainment to better address the needs and expectations of its car owners. The Linux Foundation is very pleased to be welcoming Toyota to its member ranks and hopes to have the car giant help bring more advancements to Linux.
