It appears that Apple's continuing quest for global domination shows no signs of slowing down. Since its launch more than a year ago, iPad tablets have been slowly but surely gaining momentum in the mobile internet space. According to a report published by NetMarketShare, the iPad has planted a significant foothold on mobile web users, with 1% of the world's internet access credited to iPad owners. A closer inspection of previous months statistics also indicates that the iPad's market share in the mobile and tablet devices category has grown exponentially by 10% since March 2011, compared to desktop computers. In relation to this, the April 2011 numbers from StatCounter also indicate the iPad's strong showing in U.S. web traffic, well ahead of Linux devices. Pretty impressive, considering that by most standards Apple's ubiquitous iPad is still a relatively new product. But while some may view this as a preemptive sign indicating that our beloved desktop systems are in danger of being eventually replaced, tablet computers have a long way to go before they reach a degree of flexibility offered by our stalwart do-it-yourself systems.
