Recently EA released its own digital distribution service, Origin, as a competitor to Steam. This has caused many people to wonder what future games may be available on Steam and which will be Origin exclusives. It turns out they don't need to look at future games but past games to find out. If you try to open the Crysis 2 Steam store page (http://store.steampowered.com/app/99830) you are taken back to the Steam homepage, as the game is now "Only On Origin." However, as TechSpot points out, services such as Direct2Drive and Impulse are still able to sell the game, along with Alice: Madness Returns, an EA game released yesterday that is not on Steam. EA has released a statement that IGN has published on its site stating this was not EA's decision but a result of Steam's business terms with developers. By Crytek having an agreement with another download service (Origin), Steam's rules were violated, resulting in Crysis 2's removal.

From the Steam forum for the Crysis Series, users that have previously purchased Crysis 2 are still able to download the game through Steam, and BurtonJ of Valve confirms this; "If you own the game, you still have access to it on Steam."

I was certainly disappointed when saw Alice wasn't coming to Steam, but this move is certainly interesting. If it's truly Steam's doing, then I guess they must have some distinction between Origin and other services like D2D since it has Steam-like features like friends list and an actual software application.
