The Kindle e-reader was an international success for Amazon with millions of units sold worldwide. It seems Amazon is preparing a new product, this time a tablet, according to orders placed with Taiwanese firm Quanta Computer. The tablet is said to include an electrophoretic display (EPD), otherwise known as e-paper, coupled with a touch panel and Fringe Field Switching (FFS) technology for a better viewing experience. Quanta Computer is currently the OEM manufacturer of tablets for RIM and Sony, with Amazon's order set to add US$3.5 billion to Quanta's 2011 revenue. This upcoming concept from Amazon combining an e-paper screen with the tablet experience is very intriguing. I'd expect to hear more details about the Amazon tablet soon, as Quanta Computer is expected to start shipping the tablet in the second half of this year.
