We previously reported on a rumor that Nintendo will debut a new console at this year's E3. Well, those rumors have been confirmed by none other than Nintendo itself as it plans to have a playable version of the new console at E3. Nintendo also is planning to have the console ready to ship in 2012, though no details on exactly what the console would be came with the announcement. Nintendo did drop just how many Wii consoles have been shipped since it debuted at the tail end of 2006 which is 86.01 million. That is quite an impressive number considering the Wii brings motion-gaming and no HD to the living room, but Nintendo definitely knew what it was doing. Perhaps the next console can have as much success as the current one, but if you're thinking it will be 3D gaming well think again. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata notes that 3D will be difficult to bring to a home console because 3DTVs are not mainstream yet, so it is looking like we'll have something truly innovative on the horizon from Nintendo.
E3 starts on June 7th this year when we'll all get a first look at just what the successor to the Nintendo Wii will be.
