Everyone loves solid state drives for the fast performance and no noise, but the price still puts many people off. We still have mechanical hard drives and today, Samsung has announced a new breakthrough as it has managed 1TB platters. That means that each platter in a hard drive contains 1TB (or up to it) which should open the door for hard drives reaching 4TB in total size. Samsung also has 500GB platters for laptop drives which means a 1TB standard-size laptop HDD is possible. The 3.5" HDD spins at 5,400RPM with a 32MB cache and SATA 6Gb/s support, while the 2.5" drive has an 8MB cache and SATA 3Gb/s support. However, price and a release date remains a mystery for both sizes but the future is looking good with the possibility of a 4TB hard drive.
