This is certainly big news during CES 2011 as Skype has just announced its intention to acquire Qik. Skype and Qik are both in the video calling business, which makes them rivals, and Skype announced at CES that it is acquiring Qik. No terms of the deal were announced but Skype expects the transaction to finalize later this month. Skype said that the acquisition will allow the two companies to work together to deliver high-quality video calls to consumers around the world, plus Qik's "deep engineering capabilities and strong mobile relationships" will be a good fit for Skype. What this means to consumers will remain to be seen, but it should at least provide some unity for video calling methods, be it on the PC or mobile phones. What are your thoughts on this acquisition?
