OCZ is one of the leading manufacturers of solid state drives so it is pretty safe to say that these new items will be worthwhile. OCZ introduced three new SSDs at CES today, two of them being of the 2.5" form factor while the third is a PCI-e model. The first 2.5" drive is the Vertex 3 Pro, which builds upon the success of the Vertex 2 by incorporating a SATA 6Gbps connection and MLC-based storage. The Vertex 3 has a next-generation SandForce controller (most likely the SF-2000 series) and will approach 80,000 IOPS while delivering 550MB/second transfer rates. Next up is the Vertex 3 EX which has a SATA 6Gbps connector like the Pro, but this one uses SLC-based memory. The read speeds of the Vertex 3 EX are 550MB/s while the write speeds are just a bit less at 525MB/s. Lastly, there is the Z-Drive R3 PCI-e SSD which will be OCZ's first SandForce based PCI-e drive. The Z-Drive R3 is engineered for Tier 0/1 applications and will deliver transfer rates of 1GB/s.
The Vertex 3 Pro and EX will be available in 50, 100, 200, and 400GB capacities while the Z-Drive R3 will be available in capacities up to 1.2TB. No prices or release dates were listed for any of these new SSDs, but the performance numbers should have plenty drooling in the mean time.
