AMD recently revealed its 6500M and 6300M GPUs and today NVIDIA followed suit, introducing the GeForce GT 540M laptop GPU. The GT 540M is NVIDIA's first 500-series graphics solution for notebooks. The new GPU is based on the 40nm manufacturing process with a core clock speed of 672MHz and shader clock speed of 1344MHz, along with 92 processor cores. The GPU is backed by up to 1.5GB of either GDDR5 or GDDR3 128-bit memory clocked up to 900MHz. Of course, DirectX 11, OpenGL 4.1, PhysX, 3D Vision, NVIDIA Optimus technology and CUDA support come included as standard. OEMs will couple the GT 540M with the Intel 32nm dual-core "Arrandale" CPUs to provide value for mainstream consumers before the release of the upcoming "Huron River" platform next year. The NVIDIA GT 540M GPU is available now from Acer in China with a world wide release following in January 2011.
