ARM Debuts New Embedded GPU Architecture

Category: Mobile

Mali-T604 is ARM's latest embedded GPU technology that was unveiled today in California. Samsung will be the first of ARM's partners to get its hands on the new chip. The new GPU will be used with GPGPU(General Purpose Graphic Processing Unit) computing in mind by having extensive support for OpenCL and DirectX. The Mali-T604 comes with four shader cores and it has two to five times the number crunching ability as the current top of the line Mali-400 cores with the same clock speeds. It will have full support of DirectX11 and OpenGL ES 2.0. This new GPU will be joined with the Cortex-A15 CPU as an SoC(System-on-Chip). Don't expect to see these soon though since these are supposed to come out in the next several years. I'm just going to speculate and say 2013-2014 is usually the time frame of "the next several years".
