AMD is developing new processors to target the expanding mobile market, including tablets and netbooks. This market is currently home to chips such as the Intel Atom and a variety of ARM based processors. According to several high ranking AMD employees, it could break into the market as early as next year. A little late to the party, but better late than never. The chips will be based on the Fusion architecture, the fruit of the AMD and ATI merger, and are code-named Wichita and Krishna. Fusion will combine both the CPU and GPU into one chip. The chips will feature the Bobcat CPU core, and will be able to handle 1080p video playback. As they will be built on the 28nm process, there should be significant savings over the current 40nm offerings.
