Google Chrome Notebook Could Appear This Month

Category: Mobile
Posted: 05:19PM

A report in Taiwan's Digitimes claims that a Google branded notebook sporting the Chrome OS could be on the way this month. The notebook will reportedly be produced by Inventec, with up to 70,000 units being produced. Google has previously jumped into the hardware game with the Nexus One phone, but has seen more success just licensing its OS. Google has several partners already signed on to make devices based on the Chrome OS, including Acer, Qualcomm, and Freescale. Google is hoping that it can convince consumers that the web is all they need as it tries to break into the market dominated by Windows. It will also face competition from Apple and Linux based operating systems which both have millions of users.

Doubt this will go over well, unless they can get full applications to run on it.

Considering that most people just use the internet, and since Google offers so many services such as Google Docs, I think it's not a bad idea for a netbook. I might consider getting something like this to take notes on in classes if the price is right.

Wow, I had completely forgotten about Chrome OS. It seemed like a good idea for netbooks and simple-use type situations. But this market seems to be getting pushed aside by tablets and phones where google already is doing well with Android. Chrome doesn't seem like it's enough for a full-on PC or heavy use laptop. So it seems left without much of a market.
