Super Talent is aiming to make a serious dent in competitor's plans to keep USB 2.0 flash drive prices high. The company has just announced two new USB 3.0 flash drives that start at $14. That's right, a USB 3.0 flash drive for under $15. The new drives are the USB 3.0 Express Duo and come in 8 and 16GB varieties. Both are backwards compatible with USB 2.0 ports, but when plugged into a USB 3.0 port the read speeds will hit 67MB/second. With USB 2.0 flash drives topping out around the 32MB/s barrier, the Super Talent USB 3.0 ones are basically doubling that speed while maintaining an excellent price point. Super Talent says there is pretty much no reason to get a USB 2.0 drive at this price and I have to agree with them.

The Super Talent USB 3.0 Express Duo flash drives will ship later this month. The 8GB model will cost you $14 while the 16GB will run you $29.

Why even bother when it's nowhere near the USB 3.0 threshold? Sounds more like a marketing gimmick. That aside, the price and performance looks pretty good!

Argh! I can't edit! I'm stupid, I meant USB 2.0 thresholds, but was thinking SATA II thresholds, lol.
