Android phones have had a good run this past year, and that is clear when you look at the sales figures. Nielsen research indicates that Android has been the most popular platform among smartphones sold in the last 6 months. The iPhone and BlackBerry are tied for second, with neither having any advantage over the other. BlackBerry still holds a 3% advantage over the iPhone in the smartphone market, with Android just 9% behind the iPhone. Both BlackBerry and the iPhone have seen drops in new purchases, while Android purchases have more than doubled since January. Many analysts predict that the Android platform will surpass both the iPhone and BlackBerry soon, perhaps even this year.
