The Samsung Galaxy Tab is getting closer to launch and now more details are known about where you can get it. At an event held late last night, Samsung announced that its Galaxy Tab will be available on all four major US carriers with a Wi-Fi only equipped model launching soon. The models on the cellular networks will have 3G support but no 4G at this time. Samsung still hasn't announced any price on the Wi-Fi or 3G models so that is still up in the air currently. If you recall, the Galaxy Tab will be running Android 2.2 on a 7" widescreen touchscreen at a resolution of 1024x600. The device is just about 5" wide so it should be able to fit in some coat pockets just fine. On the rear of the slate is a 3 megapixel camera with flash with a 1.3 megapixel camera on the front for video calls. The rear camera can take photos or videos that Samsung claims will be DVD quality. The Galaxy Tab has 16GB of internal storage included but you can equip it with up to a 32GB microSDHC card for even more storage space.
Also launching with the Galaxy Tab will be the Samsung Media Hub which sounds pretty similar to Apple's iTunes. The Media Hub will offer new releases and older movies for purchase or rental, plus TV shows will be available the next day after they air. You can have up to five devices play the content so long as each device is authenticated through Media Hub. No pricing was announced for rentals or purchases but Samsung said it will be competitive with content available in other stores. The first partners for Media Hub are MTV, NBC, Paramount, Universal Studios, and Warner Brothers, while Samsung will announce more partners as they come on board.
