SanDisk has a rather interesting solution to get fast storage available to every market possible. That solution is in the form of an integrated solid state drive which is no bigger than a postage stamp yet delivers SSD caliber performance. The integrated SSD, or iSSD, will be available in sizes ranging from 4 to 64GB and will deliver a read speed of 160MB/second and write speeds up to 100MB/s. This is all possible because this little iSSD uses a SATA interface in a small Ball Grid Array, or BGA, package that can be soldered into any motherboard. The iSSD will be able to keep up with all kinds of operating systems and can work in tablets or netbooks to get the form factor as small as possible while still providing exceptional performance. However, I think the possibilities could be endless on how many and what type of devices will use this iSSD.
Pricing will be dependent on the quantity ordered though OEMs should be expecting shipments to arrive shortly. So the next portable device you buy may be rocking an iSSD as its primary storage solution.
