Recently we reviewed the QNAP TS-459U-RP Turbo NAS Server which provides storage for all types of files including music, photos, and video. Today QNAP announced a new addition to its lineup which will allow remote access of media files via an Android device. Now you can stream those ever important media files to your phone via the Internet, giving you a pocket media player in the palm of your hand with the large storage space of your home QNAP NAS.
To be able to stream your media you must upgrade to version 3.3.0 of the QNAP management software and be running Android OS 1.5, 1.6, or 2.1 with the QMobile app installed. No word on if the latest Android 2.2 OS is or will be supported but as soon as we know more we will pass on the information.
James Wu, Product Manager of QNAP Systems, stated “We are pleased to announce QMobile application as the first multimedia app for the connection between NAS and Android devices. For now, both iPhone and Android users can have fun with their mobile device and QNAP NAS. [...] Users no longer need to be concerned about synchronizing the multimedia contents to the mobile device. They can save storage space of the mobile device and get a compelling user experience with QMobile.”
